At the conclusion of the presentation, City Commission instructed staff to evaluate other significant street lighting candidate locations in the order of priority for inclusion in future CIP program. Staff has evaluated all known locations from the files and has formulated the following list in the order of priority: 1. Orlando Avenue, from east of Hammock Drive to City limits east of Clarke Road-Estimated cost$60,000. 2. A.D. Mims Road, from Clarke Road east to City Limits(upgrade and new)-estimated cost$50,000. 3. Maguire Road,from end of current lighting south to City Limits—estimated cost$48,000. It should be noted that the costs shown for locations 1 &2 are approximate and are subject to further refinement upon design by Progress Energy. Also,there are additional monthly rental charges depending upon type of fixtures chosen for implementation. Issue: Consider the street lighting candidate list and provide direction to staff. Recommendations: City Commission to consider the street lighting candidate list and provide direction to staff. BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION On June 7, 2005, staff presented the cost proposal submitted by Progress Energy for street lighting on South Maguire Road. At the conclusion of the presentation, City Commission instructed staff to evaluate other significant street lighting candidate locations in the order of priority for inclusion in future CIP program. Progress Energy has provided a cost proposal,which includes an initial design& construction cost of$47,082.85 and a monthly rental fee of$625.14 for the additional lights. There are no funds remaining from the Maguire Road widening project. Furthermore,Road Impact Fee Funds cannot be used for the installation of street lights as a stand-alone project,but could be used for that purpose as a part of a capacity improvement project. Issue: Proposal by Progress Energy to furnish and install additional highway lights on Maguire Road to south City limit. Recommendations City Commission to consider the proposal by Progress Energy and provide direction to staff.
