HomeMy WebLinkAbout08-24-2017 Minutes MINUTES OF THE CITIZEN ADVISORY COUNCIL OF THE OCOEE POLICE DEPARTMENT MEETING HELD AUGUST 24, 2017 CALL TO ORDER: In the absence of Chairperson Santana, Member King calls the meeting to order at 7:05pm in the Commission Chambers of City Hall, located at 150 N. Lakeshore Drive. Member Lewis gives the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance is led by Member King. PRESENT: David Ball, Victoria Laney, Adrian Hill, Dennis Murray, Cheryl King, Marc Bray, Cory Garone, Warren Lewis, Braundon Vines (late arrival). Also present are Sgt. Mireya lannuzzi and Recording Clerk Maria Serrano. ABSENT: Jose Santana(absent unexcused), Terry Titus (absent unexcused). QUORUM: Declared at 7:07pm by Recording Clerk Serrano. APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM THE JULY 27, 2017 MEETING: Member Bray motions to approve the minutes. Member Murray seconds. Member Laney wants to discuss typos and strikethroughs in the minutes. Member Laney proposes the board vote down then motions for the board to approve the minutes with the current strike outs and two additional strike outs. Those additional strike outs being Member Laney's comment about the need for subcommittees and Member Laney's final mention of a dog shooting. Member Bray withdraws his motion to approve the minutes. Member Laney motions to approve the minutes with the current strike outs and two additional strike outs. Member Bray seconds, the motion carries unanimously. UPDATE OF EVENTS: Sgt. Iarmuzzi informs the board of the success of the Stuff the Police Car event. Donations filled one van and a few cars. The Chaplain unit completed their Blue Jay Way clean up, known previously as Pig Trail. The first Casting with a Cop event was successful, the FWC and local business Get Hooked Bait and Tackle contributed to the event. Member Laney was present and says the event was wonderful. The Jim Beech Center hosted a friendly basketball game against the police department at the end of their summer camp program. Former Orlando Magic players Nick Anderson and Bo Outlaw were present. Sgt. Iannuzzi states she and 22 Ocoee police officers were present at the funeral of Kissimmee Sgt. Richard Howard and Ofc. Matthew Baxter. Member Laney also attended the funeral; she thanks Sgt. Iannuzzi for inviting the board to attend. Compliments casting, member Titus was at Kona with a Cop. Laney left a review. SENIOR CENTER EVENT: Member Garone updates Member King on the board's idea for a senior center event. Discussion ensues. Member Laney says she will confirm Carlos Morales' October availability. Member Garone motions that the board host the event in October, provide refreshments, and that Member Laney contact Carlos Morales of the Orange County Consumer Fraud Unit to coordinate his availability. Member King seconds the motion, the motion carries unanimously. GENERAL DISCUSSION/NEW BUSINESS: Member King opens discussion on how frequently the board meets. Sgt. Iannuzzi tells the board that since the board started meeting monthly in January of this year, attendance has been an issue. Discussion ensues. Member Garone motions to have the City Clerk's office contact those board officers whose attendance will come to a vote for dismissal during the September meeting. Member Bray seconds the motion. The board votes 6/3, the motion carries. The board chooses to address Member Hill and Member Vines directly, they both express they wish to remain on the board. SET NEXT AGENDA: Finalize Senior Center Event Absences/Frequency of Meeting Budget COMMENTS/QUESTIONS FROM THE PUBLIC ADJOURNMENT: Member Murray motions to adjourn, Member Garone seconds. The motion carries unanimously. Member King adjourns the meeting at 8:34 PM.
