Re: SETTING A DATE FOR THE FIRST MEETING IN JULY
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners set the first meeting in July
on July 5?
BACKGROUND
The City Charter provides that the City Commission will meet at such times as may be
prescribed by ordinance or resolution and the City Code provides that the City Commission
will meet on the first and third Tuesday of each month and such other meetings as may be
called for by resolution. As the July 4th holiday falls on the first Tuesday this year it will
be necessary for Commission to set a date for the first meeting in July. In the last 20 year
period under these same circumstances (1978 and 1989) Commission chose to meet on
Wednesday, July 5.
DISCUSSION
There are several projects already set in motion that require the first meeting in July in order
to complete their schedules for subsequent public hearings in a timely manner.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
adopt Resolution No. 95-03 cancelling the regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 4 and
calling a regular meeting for Wednesday, July 5, 1995.
