Proclamation
WHEREAS, May 4 is the day set aside for all Americans to come
together as a nation, Under God, to observe the 44th
consecutive Nation Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, prayer to the Almighty God is regarded as the most
significant expression one can make for the benefit of oneself
and others; and
WHEREAS, prayer at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia in 1774
acknowledged our dependence upon God and proclaimed that
America would be a nation built upon spiritual principles;
and
WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that we should give thanks for the
freedom and prosperity which our nation enjoys and to pray
for the guidance and watchcare which God has graciously
bestowed upon America since its inception; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon all of us to pray for our officials in
government so that their decisions may be influenced and
inspired; and
WHEREAS, all across our land on May 4, Americans of all
denominations will unite to pray for our people, our leaders
and our nation; and
WHEREAS, the 28th ANNUAL MAYOR'S PRAYER BREAKFAST
begins this special day with a gathering of prayer, inspiration
and fellowship.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee,
Florida, do hereby recognize May 4, 1995, as the
NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER
in America and proclaim that it is also the Day of Prayer in the City of Ocoee.
I urge all citizens to join me in prayer and observe this most meaningful day.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of
the City of Ocoee, Florida to be affixed this 2nd day of May, 1995.
