WHEREAS, the town of Ocoee was recognized as a community before the turn of the twentieth century;
and
WHEREAS, this community was brought together by pioneers Dr.A.M.Clarke and Captain Bluford M.
Sims;and
WHEREAS, these pioneers realized many years ago the potential of this community and its location in
Central Florida;and
WHEREAS, the founders of the community were dedicated to the ideas and ideals of family life;and
WHEREAS, as the population grew,the need for recognition as a city became evident to the population and
town leaders;and
WHEREAS, on May 13, 1925,the Charter of the City of Ocoee was established with the State of Florida;
and
WHEREAS, in spite of some former troubled times,we have risen above less tolerant attitudes;and
WHEREAS, the current climate of Ocoee is one of brotherhood and tolerance for all those who wish to call
this City home; and
WHEREAS, we must continually strive to reform and restructure our Charter to keep pace with changing
times.

May 13,1995,the 70th anniversary of our City Charter,as
RECOGNITION OF THE CHARTER DAY
in Ocoee.
FURTHER, I call upon all citizens of Ocoee to respect and appreciate our City Charter,
AND FURTHER, I exhort all citizens to carefully re-examine the reasons and purposes for which the Charter
was established,and to consider the role that the Charter will play in the future of this great City.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto have set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Ocoee to be
affixed this 2nd day of May, 1995.
