WHEREAS, in 1845, Florida was admitted into statehood and in 1995,
Florida will celebrate its 150th anniversary of statehood; and
WHEREAS, during the 1994 session, the Florida Legislature enacted
Chapter 94-152, Laws of Florida, to establish the Florida
Sesquicentennial Commission to coordinate this special
anniversary, to be known as the Florida Sesquicentennial;
and
WHEREAS, the Sesquicentennial Commission has adopted as a part of its
mission the promotion of goodwill and prosperity, and
restoring a new confidence and pride in the State of Florida;
and
WHEREAS, the celebration is to be as inclusive as possible of all
individuals, government entities, private groups and
organizations that wish to participate in the celebration of this
great state; and
WHEREAS, Sesquicentennial Coordinating Committees have been
established in counties throughout the state to encourage local
involvement; and
WHEREAS, on March 3, 1995 the Sesquicentennial celebration was
kicked off with the public unveiling of a commemorative
stamp honoring the 27th state; and
WHEREAS, it is the contributions of the many municipal citizens, who
for the past 150 years have made Florida the beautifully
diverse state it is today; and
WHEREAS, this Sesquicentennial year provides cities with a unique
opportunity to showcase their municipal history and the role
that cities have played in the development of this great state.

I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do
hereby proclaim 1995 as the
FLORIDA SESQUICENTENNIAL
in Ocoee and urge recognition and support for its celebration.
FURTHER, I encourage all citizens to participate in events highlighting the
unique cultural diversity, rich heritage and natural beauty of Florida.
AND FURTHER, I support and encourage all city governments to actively
promote and sponsor a "Celebrate Florida" event.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto have set my hand and caused the Seal
of the City of Ocoee to be affixed this 18th day of April, 1995.
