SUBJECT: USE OF FORFEITURE FUNDS FOR IN-CAR VIDEO SYSTEM
STAFF REPORT
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
authorize the use of Forfeiture money to purchase one in-car video
system for use in the traffic unit vehicle.
BACKGROUND
The in-car video system would enhance the police officers' ability
to show documented evidence in court such as a traffic violators
actions as well as documentation of a traffic violator's speed
through the integration of the radar unit and the in-car video.
The in-car video will also minimize citizen complaints on officers.
DISCUSSION
The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approved the
purchase of two (2 ) in-car videos in the 94/95 C.I.P. budget
request. Because of the cost of quality units of this type the
monies requested was below the actual cost.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board
of City Commissioners approve this request to use $4,500 of
Forfeiture money for the purchase of one in-car video.
