Dear Mr. Shapiro:
In their meeting on November 8, 1995 the Senior Program Committee interviewed two
attorneys and voted to recommend that City Commission retain Michael V. Hammond,
Attorney at Law with Rissman, Weisberg, Barrett, Hurt, Donohue & McLain, to work with
them on the Senior (Over 65) Program.
Mr. Hammond's fee is $100 per hour with an up front retainer of $2,500.00 to $3,000.00,
depending on the number of meetings to attend and the amount of research involved. He
stated in our interview that if the project should take less than 25 hours the balance of the
retainer would be returned to the City. However, if more time/expense is required than the
25 hours covered by the $2,500.00 retainer (or 30 hours with a $3,000.00 retainer) he would
calculate the time needed to complete the project and submit an estimate before proceeding
further with the work, and the $100.00 hourly rate would commence at that time.
I would appreciate your placing this recommendation on the next City Commission agenda,
which I understand to be November 21.
Thank you for your help with this, and if you require any further information, please contact
me at 425-7010.
Sincerely,
