Shira, Community Relations/Projects Director3S Subject: Founders Day- Special Events Permit Attached is the Special Events Permit Application for Founders Day. The reason staff and the Founders Day Committee is submitting this for approval to the City Commission is that the Committee plans to close two roads: (1) Lakeshore Drive from the boat ramp to Oakland Avenue and (2) McKey Street from Bluford Avenue to Kissimmee Avenue (railroad tracks). Lakeshore is planned to be closed because of its proximity to all the festivities. The Founders Day Committee would like to use that part of the roadway possibly for food vendors or other booths. Lakeshore Drive is already closed from the boat ramp to Silver Star Road so we are not including this in our request. The Founders Day Committee is planning to have a car show in downtown Ocoee this year. It involves closing McKey Street to traffic so that we can have pedestrian traffic and plenty of room for all the cars in the show. We have contacted the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) since McKey Street is a state road. They have given us a verbal approval to close the road and are in the process of sending us written verification to close McKey Street. Detective Ken Fisher is a member of the Founders Day Committee. He is helping to organize the car show and will be our liaison with the Police Department to ensure we have traffic appropriately rerouted on that day. Traffic should not be a problem since Bluford Avenue and Kissimmee/Taylor will still be open to through traffic. Detective Fisher is also trying to stop by each business in downtown Ocoee to let them know about the car show. The Founders Day Committee is urging them to have sidewalk sales and have their businesses open to show people what is available in the downtown area. cc: Ellis Shapiro, City Manager Chief Robert Mark Chief Ron Strosnider Don Flippen, Building and Zoning Official Detective Ken Fisher, Ocoee Police Department Founders Day Committee Cbn3E&)T ea "CENTER OF GOOD LIVING-PRIDE OF WEST ORINGE" MAYOR•COMMISSIONER S.SCOTT VANDERGRIFT O.
