BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: The master plan for the Beech Recreation facility includes a planned addition for swimming pool support facilities and other multi-purpose rooms. When the original contract was awarded for Phase I, funds were not available to design and build this planned addition. $100,000 was proposed and is available on the 1999 Capital Improvement Project bond issue projects list for this addition. Phase I of this design/build project was awarded to D. J. Haycook Construction Co. Since the contractor is mobilized, construction started, and an architectural firm under contract, it is my opinion that it would be more cost effective to design and construct the building addition as a change order to the existing design/build contract. RECOMMENDATION: It is respectfully requested that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize change order#1 for the Beech Recreation Center. BS:jh THE PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE
