HomeMy WebLinkAboutVII (E) Discussion/Action re: Authorization to Close Old Maine Street West of Richmond Avenue Agenda 3-02-99 j o Item VII E _ �� o vi, © 2. n f~rfi o, �000 �� ROBERT SMITH PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR 370 ENTERPRISE ST.•OCOEE,FLORIDA 34761 PHONE(407)877-8420•FAX(407)877-0392 STAFF REPORT TO: The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Co missioners FROM: Bob Smith, Public Works Director DATE: February 25, 1999 RE: Closing and Fencing of Maine St. West of Richmond Ave. (old brick section) ISSUE: Public Works has received numerous reports of people stealing the paver bricks on old Maine St. BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION: Until the agreement is finalized for the realignment and construction of the new Maine St., we propose closing and fencing the brick portion of old Maine St. If this closing is authorized we propose providing access to area residents via Blackwood and the eastern dirt portion of Maine St. Fencing the brick portion of Maine St. will require 2,500 feet of 6' chain link fence at a cost of approximately $15,000. Approximately 400' of the eastern portion of Maine St. will require grading, placing crushed limestone, and compacting, at a cost of roughly $6,000. As stated above, this work will provide reliable access to the area residents. I have verified that funds in the amount of$21,000 are available in the Contingency fund. The Engineering Department is obtaining a list of affected residents and will notify them in writing of the proposed street closing. RECOMMENDATION: Therefore, Staff respectfully requests the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize $21,000 from the Contingency fund to erect a chain link fence on the brick portion of Maine St., and the grading and compacting of the eastern portion of Maine St. BS:jh 7 THE PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE CF---
