Lakeshore Drive Jean Grafton `Ry A i•�� Ocoee, Florida 34761-2258 City Clerk rf4 of coon`> (407) 656-2322 FAX (407) 656-5725 MEMORANDUM To: The Honorable Mayor and City Commission From: Jean Grafton, City Clerk Date: June 27, 1996 Re: Proclamation for Jerusalem Park In July 1994 Israel's Consul General Hermon wrote to Mayor Vandergrift asking that the City of Ocoee consider observing Jerusalem's 3000 year anniversary by taking some official action in designating a street, square or monument in the name of Jerusalem for a period of time during 1996. During regular session on September 6, 1994, Commission agreed to recognize the occasion by naming a park chosen by staff Jerusalem Park for a month during 1996, and Central Park on Flewelling Drive was chosen. "PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE" Ocoee €0, sy �~,f*— PE:1 90G.-) OR 0004‘`+` /// Whereas, Jerusalem was established as Capital by King David 3000 years ago; and Whereas, Jerusalem is a city unique in that it is the holy place for the three monotheistic religions; and Whereas, Jerusalem is a place to live in as well as a spiritual center; and Whereas, Jerusalem is a city of unity as well as diversity, with the ancient city being preserved while modern growth takes place; and Whereas, the City of Ocoee, Florida wishes to acknowledge Jerusalem's importance to both jewish and non jewish communities over the entire world as this great city celebrates its 3000 year anniversary; NOW THEREFORE, in recognition of this occasion which is being celebrated worldwide, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, Florida, hereby proclaim, for the month of July 1996, Central Park on Flewelling Drive to be Jerusalem Park IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto have set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Ocoee to be affixed this 1st day of July, 1996.
