HomeMy WebLinkAbout02-21-2019 Minutes MINUTES OF THE CITIZEN ADVISORY COUNCIL FOR THE OCOEE FIRE DEPARTMENT MEETING HELD FEBRUARY 21,2019 I: CALL TO ORDER CACOFD meeting was called to order by Member Vaughn at 6:05 pm in Station 25 Training Room located at 563 S. Bluford Avenue. A: Pledge of Allegiance was led by: Chair Vaughn B: Roll Call and Determination of Quorum: Secretary Peiffer called roll and declared quorum. Members In attendance(7): Vaughn, Lawrie, Richardson, Hodge, Orme, Gillis and West, II. Also Present: Secretary Peiffer, Fire Chief John Miller, and Deputy Fire Chief Yancy Cleveland Members Absent(3): Channell, Christian, and Lovejoy C: Review Agenda for Tonight's Meeting: Chair Vaughn reviewed the agenda for tonight. D. Review of Minutes: Minutes from the November 8, 2018 meeting were approved. Motion made by Member Gillis, seconded by Member Richardson, and was unanimously passed. II: BUSINESS FOR DISCUSSION A: Old Business: Chair Vaughn discussed the Firefighter of the Year candidates. Chief Miller and Deputy Chief Cleveland spoke about each candidate and what they have accomplished. Members took a vote by hand, which unanimously declared a recipient for this year. The Firefighter of the Year will be recognized at future ceremonies and events this year. B: Under Construction—City Growth: Chair Vaughn discussed some of the businesses and buildings currently under construction. C: Upcoming Events: Chair Vaughn discussed upcoming events. Chair Vaughn announced the date and times for Spring Fling, as well as for the Ocoee Fire Department Open House. He asked the members to contact Secretary Peiffer if they wish to volunteer for either(or both)events, and if they had any items to contribute to the events. Chair Vaughn mentioned the Citizens Public Safety Academy which is set to begin in April, and suggested that it would be a good idea for some of the members that have not ever attended to sign up. Chief Miller also mentioned one of the benefits of attending the academy would be to gain knowledge of what the police and fire departments do. D: Transport Update: Chief Miller discussed the update regarding transport in which they have hired six new firefighters, and are in the process of hiring two more to cover the additional rescues. The Ocoee Fire Department is estimating to transport 3,200 patients, and will continue to make necessary adjustments for peak rescue units as needed. The goal is to get to the patient quickly, provide exceptional and quality care,and to continue that care to the hospital. He also mentioned that they are meeting and exceeding the national standards of arriving on the scene within the time expected. Chief Miller briefly spoke about the departments current accreditations and that they would pursue more as it becomes a transporting agency. E: Chief's Comments: Chief Miller talked briefly about Operation Santa and that they visited almost all the neighborhoods in Ocoee during the event. The amount of participation has increased as well as the amount of toys that are being collected. Chief Miller spoke about all the positive changes occurring in the City such as the City Center,the Lakeshore Center expansion, and the new City Hall building. F: Set Next Agenda: Chair Vaughn, along with input from the council members, set the agenda for the next meeting which will be held on May 9, 2019. Agenda was established as below: I.
