WHEREAS, central Florida-based New Hope Inc. is a member of the
National Family Caregivers Association and is participating in
National Family Caregivers Week from November 24 through
30 with activities scheduled throughout November; and
WHEREAS, each year the National Family Caregivers Association -- a 501
(c)(3) organization -- declares the week of Thanksgiving
"National Family Caregivers Week" to raise awareness about
the impact of caregiving on the American Society; and
WHEREAS, there are an estimated 18 to 25 million Americans who care for
an about loved ones who are chronically ill or disabled, and
360,000 to 500,000 of those caregivers reside in Florida; and
WHEREAS, New Hope Inc.'s Community Care Teams provided volunteer
training and support to caregivers in the local community,
including Orange, Seminole and Osceola Counties; and
WHEREAS, family caregivers provide more than two thirds of all home care
services in America, 80% are women between the ages of 40
and 59, and the market value of services caregivers provide is
in excess of $190 billion per year; and
WHEREAS, the community's involvement provides recognition and support
for families and caregivers,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee do
hereby proclaim November 24 to 30, 1996 to be
FAMILY CAREGIVERS WEEK
in Ocoee.
