Shira, Community Relations/Projects Director Subject: Founders' Day Fireworks Issue Should the City Commission authorize the Mayor to sign a contract with Zambelli Fireworks Internationale for$15,000 for this year's Founders' Day fireworks? Background and Discussion Last year the City signed a contract with Zambelli for a $15,000 fireworks display for Founders' Day. The Zambelli company is willing to provide the same level of show for the same price again this year. (See attached supporting materials.) If the City Commission desires, staff will begin working with the Zambelli company to put together the necessary contract which can then be signed by the Mayor on behalf of the City. The funds for this expenditure are available in the Community Relations Department's Founders' Day account. October 2000 seems like a long ways away; however, for budgetary purposes, we are already beginning to formulate plans for this fall. Although we are not yet ready to enter into a contract, I would very much like to get a proposal from you on what we could expect to pay for a similar type of show that you did for us this past fall. I normally ask this of the businesses I work with so that I can lessen the chances for any surprises down the road. I hope to have all the budgetary information collected by April and will then begin working with the various vendors to enter into contracts and submit purchase orders.
