I plan on Ocoee being the place where my children will grow up_ The reason I would like to serve on the Recreation Advisory Board is that availability of recreation sites has always been something that I have been concerned and or interested in-depending on the availability of them_ I have lived in Florida. New York and Massachusetts_ Living in MA_ I was always amazed at the number of public parks and recreation centers available to the public_ No matter where you lived you did not have to travel far to find a place for your family to play. And when I did take advantage of these parks/facilities I always felt good seeing so many people from every age group and different backgrounds coming together to playtogether_ NY also seemed to have a good amount of public parks and facilities available without having to drive very far. Again, these parks seemed to be one.of the primary bonding agents, making where I lived feel like my community_ I like to play basketball_ I play 3-4 times a week_ On weekends I like to find pick- up games, unfortunately I have found that I almost always have to travel to find those games_ When adults play together there is an instant sense of camaraderie, and if they are playing at a local park there is also a sense of community instantly realized_ It is a great way to meet the people of your community while participating in a common interest My 17 year old son played for the Ocoee Little League_ I sat up atthe Ocoee Little League field many evenings and weekends_ Once my son moved up to the majors I was appalled at the facilities that they were forced to play at_ Also, throughout his time in both leagues the scramble to find places to practice was terrible_ Sometimes when there is not much for my 4 year old son to do in the neighborhood my wife will take him to a park She has complained that she has to drive to Orlando to find a decent park_ Recently she met someone through work who told her of the improvements that had been done at Tiger Minor Park_ That weekend she took him there and was thrilled to find a place so close to home_ The main reasons I would like to get involved in the Recreation Advisory Board is I want to make sure there are facilities for young children, older children and adults_ Also_ I think we can probably come up with some new ways to make residents of Ocoee aware of the positive changes that have taken place such as the Tiger Minor Park improvements and the new Recreation center being built near Clark Road and AD Mims Road_ I would like to be a part of all of the changes that are taking place in Ocoee. at a rapid pace_ The Recreation Advisory Board would be something I would very much like to participate in_ Thank 0 u for your consideration.
