Dear Mr. Ellis Shapiro:
We, the Ocoee Youth Soccer League, are writing you to URGENTLY
request a spot on the agenda for the upcoming City Commission meeting
Tuesday, February 18, 1997. Our soccer league has started with a bang and
will be growing next year and for years to come. As you may well know, we are
presently playing at the Ocoee Middle School, and the projection for next year
is, we will out-grow that field already. As it is, we have made two (short
and long) fields out of the one. They are set different during the game day to
accommodate the age group playing. I've enclosed a present and projected
participation sheet for 96-97 and 97-98. Projections were based on phone calls
to the league for sign ups and people recently finding out about the league due
to lack of funds at the beginning to advertise. As you can see according to the
sheets, we will need either a field with lights or an area where two or more
fields can be made to make us able to run two games at once. As of now, we
have 16 teams with a total of 195 players. Games presently run from 8:00am
to 4:30pm. Next year with approximately 20 teams and a total of 300 children,
we will need lights to run games into the dark or two fields together to run two
games at once. Once again, we urgently request to be put on the agenda for
February 18, 1997 for 5-10 minutes to make the City aware of their rapidly
growing new soccer league.
This is very important to the children of the Community to keep them
active and healthy and off the streets. We do not want to turn children away
from the league due to lack of space or daylight to run 20 or more teams, it's
not fair and very discouraging to a child. This league is co-ed, so the whole
youth of Ocoee can be involved.
Thank you,
Jerod Ellison, OYSL President
and the 96-97 OYSL Boardmembers
