MEMORANDUM
'1'O: The Honorable Mayor and Board,,,,1 of City Commissioners
FROM: Mark W. Brace, CPPB, Buyer glyp
DATE: 24 June, 1997 ll
RE: AUTHORIZATION TO PURCHASE OPTICOM PRIORITY CONTROL SYSTEM
USING FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION BID NO. B95-08 AND
FLORIDA JOB CONTRACT 75000-35-03
The Fire Department has requisitioned for two (2) Opticom Priority Control Systems which will
he installed at the intersections of Bluford Avenue and Geneva Street as well as Kissimmee
Avenue& Geneva Street.. These devices allow for relatively safe passage of emergency vehicles
upon approach to a major intersection which has a traffic light. The devices control the traffic
light allowing for the emergency vehicle to change the light upon approach rather than waiting
for the extra time, sometimes costly in an emergency, for the traffic to clear to allow passage of
the emergency vehicle(s). The Fire Department initially had these devices installed at all the
other major intersections in October of 1995.
The acquisition of these devices will be through American Lighting & Signalization, Inc., of
Ellenton, Florida, who was awarded the Florida Department of Transportation Bid No. B95-08
and who were also awarded the State of Florida Job Contract 75000-35-03 for the installation of
the devices. The City has authorization to piggy-hack from these contracts. The total equipment
cost, including installation, for the two (2) systems will be$12,888.
ACTION REQUESTED
The Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the purchase of two (2) Opti-
Corn Priority Control Systems for a total cost of $12,888.00 from American Lighting &
Signalization, Inc., utilizing the Florida Department of Transportation's Bid No. B95-08 and the
State of Florida's Job Contract No. 75000-35-03.
