Proclamation
WHEREAS, March is National Red Cross Month; and
WHEREAS, the Central Florida Chapter is celebrating its 80h Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, the Red Cross has been, and continues to be, instrumental in relief from the
tornado that hit West Orange County; and
WHEREAS, the Red Cross has helped over 200 families in Central Florida to recover
following fire destruction in the past year; and
WHEREAS, the Red Cross teaches first aid courses, safe boating courses, CPR and a myriad
of other classes to enhance our lives; and
WHEREAS, the American Red Cross of Central Florida is 1800 volunteers strong giving
help to their neighbors locally and the world over; and
WHEREAS, they supply almost half of the American blood supply; and
WHEREAS, this organization operates on donations from citizens and corporations: and
WHEREAS, ninety-two cents of every dollar goes back to the needy with only 8% for
overhead; and
WHEREAS, the Red Cross has served our country in war time by serving our troops on
• foreign soil and at home, and continues to do so;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do hereby declare
the month of March, 1998, to be
NATIONAL RED CROSS MONTH
in the City of Ocoee and hereby ask all citizens to recognize and thank those volunteers just
like you and me for the many services they provide to our community and to the Nation.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of the City of
Ocoee, Florida to be affixed this 3rd day of March, 1998.
