_Know ye:
WHEREAS, May 6 is the day set aside for all Americans to come together as a nation, under
God, to observe the 48th consecutive National Day of Prayer; and
WHEREAS, prayer to the Almighty God is regarded as the most significant expression one
can make for the benefit of oneself and others; and
WHEREAS, prayer at Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia in 1774 acknowledged our
dependence upon God and proclaimed that America would be a nation built
upon spiritual principles; and
WHEREAS, it is altogether fitting that we should give thanks for the freedom and prosperity
which our nation enjoys and to pray for the guidance and watchcase which God
has graciously bestowed upon America since its inception; and
WHEREAS, it is incumbent upon all of us to pray for our officials in government so that
their decisions may be influenced and inspired; and
WHEREAS, all across our land on May 6, Americans of all denominations will unite to pray
for our people, our leaders and our nation; and
WHEREAS, students are invited to participate in the "U.S. Prayer Force", uniting in prayer
for their schools and their country; and
WHEREAS, the 32nd ANNUAL MAYORS' PRAYER BREAKFAST recognizes prayer,

Kota 74ereideore: I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, hereby do
proclaim May 6, 1999, to be
"NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER"
in the City of Ocoee, Florida, and encourage all citizens to unite with the rest of our great
nation in this communication of faith.
