SUBJECT: Addendum to Staff Report dated November 12, 1998 requesting
Use of Forfeiture Funds for In-Vehicle Reporting System Project Plan
On November 12, 1998, a Staff Report was submitted requesting authorization to utilize forfeiture
funds over the next three years for the implementation and furtherance of the In-Vehicle Reporting
Project Plan. A Budget Summary that outlined the program's purchases was attached to the Staff
Report. On November 17, 1998, Commission approved the request to utilize forfeiture funds not
to exceed $75,000 for the In-Vehicle Reporting Project Plan.
When the outline for the program's purchases was prepared, several items were erroneously omitted
from the list. The items are as follows:
1 Router for Message Switch
I Frame Relay Service (this will be an annual charge)
During this process we have discovered that technology costs decrease faster than we can purchase
the items. This leaves the opportunity to capitalize on allocated funds to purchase the additional
equipment needed for the project, remembering that grant money not utilized will have to be
returned to the Federal Government. All items on the first years project list have been purchased
bringing the project to approximately $15,171 under budget. With the purchase of the Router and
Frame Relay the project will still he approximately $8,566 under budget for this year's portion of
the three year project.
It is respectfully requested that we be allowed to deviate from the list submitted with the original
Staff Report and be authorized to purchase the Router and Frame Relay Service with the funds that
are allocated for this project.
