WHEREAS, the great City of Ocoee long has been recognized as a"Center of Good Living,"
that the people of Ocoee are noted for their friendliness and for their cheerful
• pursuit of what has been described as "the good life" for themselves, their
families,and friends;and
• WI-IEREAS, although each season in Ocoee bears its particular joys,the late summer and early
fall are especially noteworthy and heartening to the spirit because of the annual
proliferation of butterflies, which epitomize both the beauty and the freedom
valued so highly by the citizens of Ocoee;and
WHEREAS, butterflies of numerous varieties and stunning beauty are especially abundant in
- Ocoee, bringing their gentle loveliness to every lawn and garden throughout the
community, that cares and heartaches often can be lifted upon the glinting and
radiant wings of a butterfly and be borne away, bestowing -- for at least a fragile -
moment -- inner peace upon the beholder, coupled with•awe at the order and
beauty of nature;and

• WHEREAS, the butterfly shall be extended every courtesy common among the good people of
Ocoee, including the yielding -- wherever possible, safe, and otherwise
appropriate -- of the right-of-way in such instances where butterfly movement
may momentarily conflict with the path of citizen or vehicle;and
WHEREAS, Ocoee hereby declares the city shall be a haven for all migratory members of the
Order Lepidoptera, and that Ocoee heartily welcomes the gossamer beauty of
•these brightly-clad travelers;and
WHEREAS, in view of such wonderful benefits given so freely and indiscriminately by the
gentle butterfly,it is hereby proclaimed that the City of Ocoee extends its official
welcome to the butterfly throughout the August-through-October season.
Now; Therefore, 1, S. Scott' Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, and
• (lepidopterological enthusiast)do hereby proclaim August through October to be
. BUTTERFLY SEASON
in the City of Ocoee,and urge all citizens of our community to recognize this special season.
