RE: B00-06; Construct Concrete Sidewalks at Various Locations Through-Out
the City
ISSUE
Should the City Commission select the firm Gibbs & Register, Inc. to repair and replace various
sidewalks through-out the City and construct new sidewalks along Silver Star Road to
accommodate the new Citrus Elementary School?
BACKGROUND & DISCUSSION:
The current fiscal year Streets Maintenance operational budget included $42,000 for repair and
replacement of various sidewalks through-out the City. There is currently $26,630 available in
this account. Part A of the bid is the unit price the contractor will charge the City per square yard
when the various sidewalks arc determined to need repairing or replacing and per ton for removal
and disposal of the existing sidewalks.
the Capital Reserve fund includes monies received in a previous fiscal year from Orange County
for sidewalk construction. There is currently $30,000 remaining for the construction of
sidewalks. These funds will be utilized for the construction of approximately 1,330 linear feet of
new sidewalks along Silver Star Road, which must be completed by the first week in August to
accommodate pedestrians for the new elementary school. Part B of the bid is the unit price the
contractor will charge the City per linear foot of new sidewalk construction. The estimated total
cost based on the low- hid would be $20,615 and is approximately $9,385 less than $30.000
remaining Ibr sidewalk construction.
The bid was advertised on June 11. 2000, and publicly opened on June 28. 2000. Part A of the
bid is for the repair and replacement of various sidewalks through-out the City and Part B of the
hid is for the construction of new sidewalks along Silver Star Road. Responses were received
