HomeMy WebLinkAboutII (B2) Proclamation: International Day of Peace Agenda 9-21-99 Item 11B2 Ocoee o�Qo : too 1 or ono Proclamation WHEREAS, we acknowledge that wars are disastrous and that there is a better way to resolve our differences; and WHEREAS, peace begins with united efforts to release our world from the threat of nuclear warfare and terrorism, to release our cities from violence and crime, and to free ourselves from prejudice and animosity; and WHEREAS, our hope for peace Iles in teaching our children problem solving skills and morality in our homes and schools and inspiring then to avoid addiction to drugs, alcohol, tobacco and the misuse of guns; and WHEREAS, we should endeavor to encourage a reformed United Nations, our military, and all governments to protect our human rights, health, education and our environment by me:ms not based on fear but on trust, not on the law of force but on the force of law; and WHEREAS, in order to promote peace for all humanity, 'Tuesday, September 21 has been declared "International Day of Puce," 71n0, Wetelmer I, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do hereby declare Tuesday, September 21, 1999, as "INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE" in the City of Ocoee, And 7ortlsen. I call upon all of the citizens of Ocoee to share in the peacemaking process by joining in with the United Nations Assembly in a moment of silence on Peace Day and to continue with thoughts and actions which will promote peace and justice in our community, our state and among all nations for a better world.
