Shira, P.E., City Engineer/Utilities Director//p( SUBJECT: Dissolved Oxygen Controllers The operation of the wastewater treatment plant depends heavily on specialized pieces of equipment to monitor the amount of oxygen that is dissolved in the wastewater flow. As the dissolved oxygen level rises and falls, motors and pumps are turned on and off. This process allows the plant to operate very efficiently, limiting motor and pump run time to the minimum required. The Danfoss dissolved oxygen (D.O.) controllers that we are now using have been in operation for several years, and are wearing out. The models we have are no longer manufactured, having been replaced by a newer model. We are thus unable to get parts for the ones we have. Except for the fact that they have worn out over time, these D.O. controllers have worked very well. Kruger, the manufacturer of our plant control system, requires that Danfoss D.O. controllers be used, and based on our favorable experience with the ones we now use, we agree with Kruger. There are other brands of D.O. controllers available, but they would not be supported by Kruger, and if we had a D.O. problem in the operation of the plant, we would be on our own to try to resolve the problem. We have determined that the only supplier of Danfoss D.O. controllers in the U.S. is Instrumark International, a California company. Attached is a proposal received on 9/7/99 from Instrumark for two Danfoss D.O. control meters and associated mounting and signal conversion equipment for a total of $5,865.00 including shipping. I recommend that the City Commission authorize an expenditure in the amount of $5,865.00 from the Wastewater Repair and Replacement account for two Danfoss D.O. controllers as described in the attached Instrumark International quote.
