PARKER jF*Cf GOOD`No CI v MANAGER ELLIS SHAPIRO Staff Report Date: September 11, 2000 To: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners From: Janet G. Shira, Community Relations/Projects Director Subject: Ocoee Founders' Day Special Events Permit Attached is the special events application for this year's Founders' Day Festival. The application covers all events and activities slated for Saturday, October 21, 2000. This includes the parade, classic car show, arts and crafts booths, bicycle safety fest, historical exhibits at the Maguire House, Woman's Club, and Community Center, rides, entertainment, and fireworks. The parade starts things off at 9 a.m. and the fireworks ends the day at 9 p.m. The road closures for the parade and car show have been approved by the Florida Department of Transportation since they involve state roadways (Bluford Avenue and McKey Street). The other streets that will be closed are Oakland Avenue from Bluford to Lakeshore, Lakewood Avenue from Oakland to McKey, Lakeshore Drive from Oakland to N. Lakewood, and Delaware (just during the parade). Zambelli will be using the same staff to do their fireworks as they did last year and we have already been in touch with them regarding some minor modifications to our barge. We have been working with local property owners to acquire as much parking as possible. So far we have four church lots, both schools, and the Save-N-Pack shopping center lot. We are also considering the newly acquired Public Works land as an overflow lot if we need to run some shuttles in the late afternoon. I will personally be working closely with Lt. Seaver in the Police Department and Bob Smith, Director of Public Works, to ensure all areas are covered with regard to traffic control, crowd control, signage, and other applicable matters. We will have many City employees working that day to ensure adequate coverage in all areas. If you have any specific questions on Founders' Day planning, please do not hesitate to call me. CC: Lt. Chuck Seaver Ron Strosnider, Fire Chief Bob Smith, Public Works Director Bruce Nordquist, Recreation Director Carolyn Alexander, Founders' Day Parade Coordinator POW 4 / "CENTER OF GOOD LIVING-PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE" MAY OR•COMMISSIONER Ocoee S.SCOTT VANDERGRIFT ` CITY OF OCOEEcffio COW>I690,VERS DANN 150 N.
