HomeMy WebLinkAboutII (A3) Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) Agenda 10-3-2000 Item II A 3 September 13, 2000 Mr. Ellis Shapiro City of Ocoee 150 Lake Shore Drive Ocoee, FL 32761 Dear Mr. Shapiro: As you may know, the Orlando Metropolitan Planning Organization (METROPLAN) and the Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority (LYNX) have recently begun working on the Northern Corridor Alignment Re-Study which seeks to identify an acceptable potential light rail alignment segment between Princeton Street and State Road 434. The assumption being that this segment would connect to the previously studied service through downtown Orlando and on to the Convention Center. This study approach emphasizes comprehensive public participation. We realize that the public and local governments will have many questions and concerns regarding technical and policy issues. Each stakeholder must be fully informed as to the system requirements and engineering design trade-offs that will form the basis for many technical and public policy decisions to be addressed. Some of these issues include environmental justice, residential and business displacements, neighborhood cohesion and community stability. Your involvement is critical to accomplishing our goal. We would appreciate the opportunity to update your Commission on the status of the study sometime this month or early October. STY, the consultants conducting the study, will work closely with your staff to schedule a mutually beneficial time to meet. Any assistance you can provide will be greatly appreciated. We look forward to speaking with you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration in this matter.
