Proclamation
WHEREAS, each of us can make a difference toward serious social problems that concern
our nation and threaten its future; and
WHEREAS, connecting with others and working together through volunteer service can
bridge the differences that separate people and help solve these problems; and
WHEREAS, we, the American people, have a tradition of philanthropy and
WHEREAS, self-sacrificing individuals will touch and enhance the lives of people nationwide
on the ninth annual day of doing food by giving, rebuilding, teaching and
inspiring where there is a desire or need; and
WHEREAS, USA WEEKEND, and its affiliate media and The points of Light Foundation
and its affiliate volunteer centers have joined to promote an annual national day
of cooperation that celebrates and strengthens the spirit of volunteer service; and
WHEREAS, our city, Ocoee, Florida recognizes that volunteer service is an investment in the
future we share, and proudly promotes and appreciates the valuable volunteer
services and assistance provided by our loyal concerned citizens;
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, S. Scott Vandergrift, Mayor of the City of Ocoee, do hereby
proclaim the day of October 28, 2000 as
Make A Difference Day
in Ocoee, Orange County, Florida, and urge my fellow citizens to observe this day by
volunteering with friends, fellow employees and relatives and with religious, school and civic
groups to engage in projects benefiting our community.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set
my hand and caused the Seal of the City of Ocoee,
Florida to be affixed this 26th day of September,
2000.
