Shira, Community Relations/Projects Directo Subject: City Calendar for 2001 Issue This will be the third year for producing an Ocoee community calendar. Staff is seeking direction on what the Commission would like to see as the subject for the photographs on the calendar. Background and Discussion In order to follow a production schedule that allows for distribution of the calendar during the latter part of December 2000 and the early part of January 2001, the text and photographs for the calendar need to be provided to the printing company by mid to late October. Although we cannot award the project to a printing company and a photographer until October 1, staff will be acquiring the necessary quotes in September. Once the new budget is approved and the Finance Department is ready to process purchase orders for the new fiscal year, we will be ready to award the project and immediately begin providing the text and photographs to the printer. For discussion purposes, staff suggests one of the following subjects for the photography: (1) Recreation in Ocoee (Examples of photographs would be people playing basketball at the Beech Center, people on the West Orange Trail, playing golf at Forest Lake Golf Club, boaters on Starke Lake, the Founder's Day 5K, children in our parks, and maybe some organized children's sports if they are playing in October.) (2) Founders' Day (Examples of photographs would be people in the parade, a car in the classic car show, children enjoying the rides, a child enjoying cotton candy, a shot of the crowd watching the entertainment, fireworks, people touring the Maguire House, etc.) (3) Ocoee families and their pets We could have a contest where people write why they should be in the calendar with their pet. For any of these ideas or something the Commission comes up with, staff recommends using a professional photographer due to time constraints. Recommendation Staff respectfully recommends that the Mayor and Commissioners provide guidance for the photographs for the calendar, as well as any additional textual information you would like to see incorporated.
