SUBJECT: AUTHORIZATION TO USE FORFEITURE FUNDS TO PURCHASE
EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE
STAFF REPORT
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the use of forfeiture funds,
not to exceed$12,000, for the police department to purchase 4 computers, 4 laser jet printers, and
4 battery back-ups which will allow us to properly equip the four grant positions approved during
this current budget year.
The Ocoee Police Department applied for several federal grants for personnel which were approved
both by the issuing grant authority Cops More (two Administrative Assistant II positions and one
Evidence Tech) and the Edward Byrne's grant, (one Crime Analysis person) as well as the Mayor
and City Commissioners. During the budget process this fiscal year it was still uncertain whether
the grants would be approved by the Federal Government; so in order to assist the City in the
balancing of the City's budget, the items requested above were taken out with the understanding that
if the positions were approved that'our department would come back and request that the items
needed be purchased with money from the forfeiture funds.
RECOMMENDATION
It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners
authorize this request for the police department to utilize forfeiture funds, not to exceed$12,000,for
the police department to purchase 4 computers, 4 laser jet printers and 4 battery back-ups for
equipping the four grant positions received this current budget year. The current balance available
in the forfeiture account is approximately$90,000.
