To Whom it May Concern,
The West Orange High School Band has been selected to represent Central Florida as the
only Florida High School Band to perform in the Cherry Blossom Festival Parade in
Washington, D.C. on March 31, 2001.
In order to be selected for this honor, the Warrior Band was required to submit a videotape
of the Bands' performance, numerous photographs, a resume' of their accomplishments
and a lengthy application. While visiting our nation's capitol, the Warrior Band also plans to
attend the numerous museums comprising the Smithsonian, Arlington National Cemetery,
the National Cathedral, Zoo and Embassy Row, as well as an illuminated tour of the
Memorials, a dinner cruise on the Potomac, and a concert at the Kennedy Center.
We need the generosity of our Florida Business community to make this trip a
reality for 300 band students and 30 chaperons at an estimated cost of
$150,000. As notification of our selection by the Downtown Washington Jaycees was not
received until December, fund raising efforts of this magnitude by the band students and
parents has been extremely difficult Many of our students and chaperons need financial
help with the estimated cost per student of $450, and cost per chaperone of $350.
Please make this trip the educational and musical experience of a lifetime for 300 West
Orange County students by sponsoring a student, a chaperone, or making any donation
possible to the West Orange High School Band. With your help, we will all watch with
pride, as our Warrior Band represents us in the 2001 Cherry Blossom Festival Parade.
Sincerely yours, A
David Laniewski
Director of Bands
