JG/jl Attachment c: Jean Grafton, City Clerk POWt Public Works Memo To: Jim Gleason, City Manager From:Bob Smith, Public Works Director ,V) ��, CC: Bruce Nordquist, Recreation Director Date: March 12, 2001 Re: Little League Practice Fields At your direction, Public Works has conducted a thorough review of all City owned property with the potential for use as Little League practice fields. Also, we have investigated several centrally located private parcels that could be used with the owner's permission. City Property 1. Tiger Minor Park: At one time this park had one practice field in the northwest corner. However, this practice field was removed at the direction of the previous City Manager due to a complaint by a near-by resident. This park could easily accommodate two small practice fields. This park is maintained by Public Works Parks Division personnel. 2. Montgomery Ave. Field: This City owned field currently has one practice field in the southeast corner and could easily accommodate one more large or two more small fields. This field is mowed by our contractor on a monthly basis. 3. New Public Works Property (Old C&W Trucking): This field currently has two practice fields and can accommodate one more small practice field. This field is maintained by Public Works personnel. 4. East end of Nicole Blvd.: Public Works is currently working to clear and level this property, we should finish this work by the end of this month. This area will then be able to accommodate at least two small practice fields. •Page 1 5. Field across from Jim Beech Rec. Center: This field currently has two practice fields and could easily accommodate two more small practice fields. This field is mowed by our contractor. 6. Sawmill Retention Pond #1: This pond is located at the north end of Timber Ridge. The bottom of this pond is dry year round and measures 660 ft. by 300 ft. This pond could easily accommodate two large practice fields. This pond is mowed by our contractor. 7. Sawmill Retention Pond #4: This pond is located south of Lumberjack and Log Wagon. The bottom of this pond is dry except after periods of heavy rain and measures 440 ft. by 250 ft. During the dry season this pond could accommodate two large practice fields. This pond is mowed by our contractor. 8. Hackney Prairie Park: The northeast corner of this new park could accommodate one small practice field. This park is mowed by Public Works. 9. Vignetti Park: The east end of this park could accommodate two more small practice fields with the removal of the old BMX track. This park is mowed by Public Works. 10. Parkside Park: This park currently has one large practice field and could accommodate one more small practice field on the north side. This park is mowed by Public Works. 11.Silver Glenn Park: This park could accommodate one small practice field on the east side. This park is mowed by Public Works. Private Property 1. 326 Maine St.: In the past there were several practice fields located here. I don't know why this was discontinued. 2. 200 W. Silver Star Rd.: This large vacant field is located on Silver Star Rd., just west of the old Food Lion. This field could easily accommodate four large practice fields. As you can see in the above list, there are numerous Public and Private locations throughout the City that with some work could be used for practice fields.
