Shira, Community Relations/Projects Director 35 Subject: Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Grant Several months ago the City applied for a $28,000 grant to include the purchase and installation of a 100 kw diesel generator to be located at the Public Works facility. This level of generator is sized to operate emergency services at full load for a period of not less than 24 hours. This generator would specifically allow the City to operate its fueling tanks, use tools that may be necessary to repair emergency vehicles or equipment, provide power as a back up to the communications system, provide power to light the emergency operations staging area, and provide power for other field operations in the event of an emergency when power is not otherwise available. The City's in-kind match is labor and materials valued at$1,910 and$1,150 cash. Last week we received notice that our grant application was approved. In order to receive the grant funds, the City of Ocoee will need to enter into a contractual agreement with the state (Department of Community Affairs). One of the requirements prior to that agreement is a formal letter of acceptance. Staff respectfully requests that the City Commission authorize the Mayor to sign the attached letter of acceptance to be sent to the Department of Community Affairs. cc: Jim Gleason, City Manager Wanda Horton, Finance Director Bob Smith,Public Works Director Rich Firstner, Assistant Fire Chief ,0` Pow } Protect Ocaee's Water Resources R 'F "CENTER OF GOOD LIVING-PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE" MAYOR•COMMISSIONER Ocoee S.SCOTT VANDERGRIFT \ .• CITY OF OCOEE DANMIxowELL 0 150 N.LAKESHORE DRIVE SCOTT ANDERSON OCOEE,FLORIDA 34761-2258 RUSTY JOHNSON (407)905-3100 NANCY J.PARKER Op GOO CITY MANAGER JIM GLEASON April 23, 2001 Edgar Gonesh, Manager Emergency Management Preparedness and Assistance Grants Program Division of Emergency Management Department of Community Affairs 2555 Shumard Oak Boulevard Tallahassee, FL 32399-2100 Dear Mr. Gonesh, On behalf of the City of Ocoee, please acknowledge this letter as formal acceptance of the award of$28,000 for the emergency generator that Ocoee applied for under your grant program.
