RE:
Stormwater Improvements for McKey Street Revitalization Project
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and the City Commission approve a total of $200,000 from the
Stormwater Improvement Funds and the R & R Funds for the stormwater infrastructure
improvements in conjunction with the McKey Street revitalization project?
BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION
The current $850,000 funding level allotted by FDOT for the McKey Street revitalization project
is inadequate for construction of all proposed improvements including the necessary stormwater
infrastructure improvement to alleviate the current and future drainage issues within the project
limits. The existing drainage system does not function as intended due to the location and
number of the inlets and pipe sizes. Historically, flooding of the adjacent building has been an
issue due to the elevation of the roadway surface versus the building pad elevations.
Because of the budget shortfall, the preliminary design of the street improvements proposes
maintaining the existing pavement surface elevations with minimal improvements to the
stormwater system. The minor retrofits of the existing drainage system will not include curb &
gutter or upgrading of the drainage pipes to adequately address the stormwater needs. However,
it is crucial that the stormwater infrastructure needs are addressed with this project. Additionally,
a curb & gutter will provide protection for pedestrians as well as other street furniture such as
light poles and plants.
If the additional funding is approved, the design of the street improvements will include a curb &
gutter and the appropriate number and sized of inlets and stormwater pipes.
The additional $200,000 for the project is available from the Stormwater Improvement Funds
(Fund 312) at $70,000 and from the R & R Funds (Fund105) at $130,000 for the improvements.

McKey Street in conjunction with the revitalization project.
