Shira, Community Relations/Projects Directo5 Subject: City's Community Calendar for 2002 Issue Staff is seeking direction on what the Commission would like to see as the subject for the photographs on the Year 2002 community calendar. Background and Discussion In order to follow a production schedule that allows for distribution of the calendar during the latter part of December 2001 and the early part of January 2002, the text and photographs for the calendar need to be provided to the printing company by late October. Although we cannot award the project to a printing company and a photographer until after October 1, staff will be acquiring the necessary quotes in September. Once the new budget is approved and the Finance Department is ready to process purchase orders for the new fiscal year, we will be ready to award the project and immediately begin providing the text and photographs to the printer. For discussion purposes, staff suggests one of the following themes for the photography: • A photo contest - Ocoee residents submit photos to be published. We could either select a theme for the photos and require either black and white or color photography, or we could leave it up to the photographer. • Founders' Day - Examples of photographs would be people in the parade, a car in the classic car show, children enjoying the rides, a child enjoying cotton candy, a shot of the crowd watching the entertainment, fireworks, people touring the Maguire House, etc. • Ocoee families and their pets - We could have a contest where people write why they should be in the calendar with their pet. We could ask them to take the photos or schedule a professional to photograph the winners. Recommendation Staff respectfully recommends that the Mayor and Commissioners provide guidance for the photographs for the calendar, as well as any additional textual information you would like to see incorporated.
