PEACE PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, peace embraces the deepest hope of all peoples, above the consideration of
politics, color, race or creed where war-making, disastrous to humanity and our
environment may be abolished; and
WHEREAS; let it begin with communities, states and nations uniting to protect our
world from nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons and individuals from violence and
crime; and
WHEREAS; may children he taught problem solving skills and morality in our homes
and schools, without anger and violence, or an addiction to drugs, tobacco, alcohol and
misuse of guns; and
WHEREAS; we should endeavor to encourage a reformed United Nations, the military,
and all governments to protect our human rights, health, education and our environment
not based on fear, but on trust, not based on the law of force but on the force of law; and
WHEREAS; may each one of us become an instrument of peace, respecting our
differences, continuing to honor past service and sacrifices, now prepared to better our
community, our nation, our interdependent world; and
NOW, THEREFORE I, S. Scott Vandergrift by virtue of the authority vested in me as
Mayor of the City of Ocoee,do hereby proclaim September 18, 2001, as
International Day of Peace
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have set my hand and caused the seal of the City of Ocoee to
be affirmed this 12`" day of September 2001.
