HomeMy WebLinkAboutIII (D) Approval and Authorization to Continue with Cross/Blue Shield Health Insurance Coverage --� Agenda 9-18-2001 "Ocoee Item III D ./ i PEGGY PSALEDAKIS HUMAN RECOURCES DIRECTOR ISO N.LAKESHORE DRIVE•OCOEE,FLORIDA 34761 (407)905-3100•FAX(407)656-5741 MEMORANDUM TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION FR: PEGGY PSALEDAKIS,H R DIRECTOR DA: SEPTEMBER 7,2001 SU: BLUE CROSS-AND BLUE SHIELD We recommend that the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Commission continue with the above health insurance coverage as presented by Ken Enlow of Brown&Brown to include the attached amended endorsement,which has been accepted by Ken Enlow of Brown&Brown. We also recommend the Honorable Mayor and Members of the Commission accept outline attached requested by the Commission at the budget session of September 5, 2001. Section 13.05 will be a part of the Rules changes to be brought forth in October however its implementation will be in effect 10/1/01. We respectfully request that the Honorable Mayor and the Members of the commission accept this recommendation. Cc: City Manager RcLkie THE PRIDE OF WEST ORANGE Blue Cross & Blue Shield Policy Endorsement City of Ocoee—Group Health wording for Retirees Coverage General Employees (normal retirement)—All full- time insured general employees who attain the age of 60, and their dependents,will be able to continue their health insurance permanently. This program will only apply if the employee actually files retirement papers with the city and receives retirement pay. The retirement papers must have been filed within 60 days of the employees' retirement date. General Employees (early retirement)—All full-time insured general employees eligible for early retirement, upon attainment of age 50 and completion of 5 years of service, and their dependents,will be able to continue their group health coverage permanently. This provision will only apply if the employee actually files retirement papers with the city and receives retirement pay. The retirement papers must have been filed within 60 days of the employees' retirement date. Fire and Police (normal retirement)—All City of Ocoee full-time insured firefighters or police officers, who attain the age of 52 and complete 25 years of service or who attain the age of 55 and complete 10 years of service, and their dependents,will be able to continue their health insurance permanently. This provision will only apply if the employee actually files retirement papers with the City and receives retirement pay. The retirement papers must have been filed within 60 days of the employees' retirement date. Fire and Police(early retirement)—All City of Ocoee full-time insured firefighters or police officers,who are eligible for early retirement upon the attainment of age 45 and completion of 5 years of service, and their dependents, will be able to continue their group health coverage permanently. This provision will only apply if the employee actually files retirement papers with theCity and receives retirement pay. The retirement papers must have been tiled within 60 days of the employee's retirement date. Elected Officials—Elected Officials who have served two terms in office upon separation from the city, may continue his/her health coverage as provided to all retiring employees under the same conditions. Elected Officials—Elected Officials shall be provided the same medical coverage as all city employees and the City shall incur the total cost of the single and dependent provision. City Manager—Upon separation from the City, the City Manager may continue his/her health coverage with the City under the same provisions stipulated for General Employees until he/she obtains employment elsewhere and secures medical insurance. NOTE: the City shall determine the breakdown of the cost of coverage between the City and the employees, elected officials and City Manager.
