Goclon, Chief of Police DATE: February 10,2004 RE: Two additional patrol vehicles added to SunTrust lease ISSUE Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize two additional patrol vehicles to be added to this year's SunTrust lease to replace two vehicles recently declared totaled by the City's insurance company. BACKGROUNDIDISCUSSION The police department wishes to add two additional patrol vehicles (over what was authorized in the 2003/2004 budget) to the SunTrust lease. Recent traffic crashes have caused two marked patrol vehicles to be declared totaled by the City's insurance company. The amount received for # 320 (1997 Crown Victoria) is $4,925.00. The City has not received a settlement for # 325 (1998 Crown Victoria), but anticipates it will be as much if not more than the one received for # 320. The money received from the insurance company for both vehicles should cover the remainder of this year's lease. Any shortfall in the lease for the two additional vehicles not covered by insurance proceeds would be made up for by forfeiture funds. The totaled vehicles were scheduled to be replaced in budget year 2004/2005. RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve two additional patrol vehicles to be added to this year's SunTrust lease to replace two vehicles recently declared totaled by the City's insurance company.
