STAFF REPORT A BICENTENNIAL COMMUNITY DATE: MARCH 23, 1988 407 TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND BOARD OF CITY COMMISSIONERS V1 FROM: RAY BRENNER, ACTING PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR SUBJECT: BLUFORD AVE./S.R. 50 INTERSECTION IMPROVEMENTS - WATER MAIN/FORCE MAIN RELOCATION ISSUE Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners issue a change order for the amount of $19,380 to the downtown area water distribution system improvements, Job No. 0E-35 3.1, or consider payment under the S.R. 50 water main/force main relocation? BACKGROUND The Department of Transportation will be paving a deceleration lane on the south side of Route 50 to extend approximately 450 feet easterly to S.R. 526 (Old Winter Garden Road). DISCUSSION D.O.T. will be paving the deceleration lane that will cover the City's water main and force main access to service or improve the systems at a later date, it will be necessary to relocate these lines at this time. D.O.T. has indicated that the relocations must be completed by May 10, 1988, which was originally planned for April 8. 15, 1988. Sealed bids were received by two (2) contractors, with the successful bidder being "Travis Williams Construction Company" for the amount of $19,380. The engineer's estimate (P.E.C.) was at $16,240. RECOMMENDATION It is respectively recommended that the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners approve the amount of $19,380 + 10% contingency monies to relocate the underground pipe lines. X 6 ' deep manhole and cover, complete with required openings, and Bitumastic Coatings, required M.J. fitting, 8" and 12" sewer piping and 8" plug valve and box. Price $6, 290 . 00 2 - Furnish labor, materials and equipment to relocate 350 L.F. 10" SDR-21 PVC water main, required M.J. fitting, and one 10" gate valve and box. Price $10 , 050 . 00 3 - Furnish labor, materials and equipment to re-connect existing hydrant, & service to new water main, including 10"X6" M.J. tee, 6" M.J. 45° , 10" X 2" D.S. saddle, corp stop and piping. Price $1 , 750 . 00 Alternate (For your consideration) To prevent a long shut-down of the water line while testing, sterlizing and make the new connections , and for making future connections , we sug- gest you install a gate valve at approximately station 798+75 .
