STAFF REPORT
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND BOARD OF CITY COM ISSIONERS
FROM: MARTIN VELIE, BUILDING AND ZONING OFFICIAL
DATE: SEPTEMBER 24, 2001
SUBJECT: UPDATE ON TREE CONSERVATION AT
CAMBRIDGE VILLAGE
During the past four weeks we have been working closely with the developer and the site
contractor to save the trees at Cambridge Village Subdivision. From the previous report, there
have been required engineering features that have been installed at the site that required
additional trees to be removed. Any tree removal must be approved by the City before the site
contractor can remove the trees. Also, from the previous report, the tree conservation area
bordering Rose Hill has been inspected and it is still intact.
As the project progresses, we will continue to inspect and monitor tree conservation. Before the
project is issued a Certificate of Completion, a complete and accurate final tree survey will be
done. Trees that are not authorized to be removed will be addressed by penalties in the Land
Development Code Chapter VI Section 6-10 which states:
For any protective tree removed without a permit, a fine shall be assessed in an amount
equal to one hundred dollars ($100) times the diameter at breast height of the removed
specimen.
Where trees have been removed or damaged in violation of this Section or permit
requirements, remedial actions shall be required to restore the property. A restoration plan
shall be submitted to the Building Department and the Staff Forester for approval and may
require tree replacement at a ratio not to exceed four(4) to one (1).
No Certificate of Occupancy shall be issued for any development until all applicable permit
and restoration conditions have been met.
If you have any questions regarding this matter, please let me know.
