Subject: Monthly Expense Stipend
Mayor and Commissioners:
There was discussion and consensus from the commission for the City Manager to review the monthly expense stipend
that was established last fiscal year. After reviewing records and documentation submitted for prior year expenses, it
appears the stipend may have been set to low and that the amount for the Mayor should have been at a higher level than
the Commission. The current monthly expense amount was set at$275.00 a month per Elected Official for an annual total
of$16,500 for the Mayor and Commission. This was the amount staff budgeted for the fiscal year 2001-2002. I am
proposing the stipend for the Mayor at$400 a month and $325 per each Commissioner. The additional annual cost would
be$3,900 total for all 5 Elected Officials. This amount would have to be authorized by the Mayor and Commission and
would need to come from the$130,000 currently in the Legislative Contingency. Please respond directly to me if you have
any thoughts or comments on this proposal. I will place this item on the next Commission Agenda November 6, 2001 for
discussion.
