Proclamation
WHEREAS, the Economic Opportunity Act signed in 1964, mandated the creation of many
local community action agencies (CAAs) to help fight poverty by implementing
education, employment, training and work experience programs at the
grassroots level; and
WHEREAS, the City of Ocoee is committed to providing the greatest level of prosperity and
quality of life through facilitating community action for all residents; and
WHEREAS, Community Action in Orange County has a proud history of working to
improve the lives of Florida's disadvantaged residents by restoring dignity and
self-sufficiency to individuals and families in need; and
WHEREAS, our local CAA, the Orange County Division of Community Action Division,
conducts numerous beneficial programs to improve community and change lives
through helping people help themselves and each other including Community
Coordination, Youth Programs, Food & Nutrition, Education, Senior Programs,
Employment & Training, Transportation, and Housing; and
WHEREAS, Community Action agencies in partnership with elected officials, the private
sector and community residents, continue to identify poverty conditions and
proactively find solutions,

month of May, 2004 as
COMMUNITY ACTION MONTH
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I hereunto have set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the
City of Ocoee, Florida to be affixed at Ocoee, Florida, this 20th day of April, in the year of
our Lord two thousand and four.
