STAFF REPORT

FROM: Robert B. Zaitooni, P.E., Deputy Director Public Works
DATE: April 20, 2004
RE: Traffic Signal at Bluford Avenue and McKey Street
ISSUE:
Should the Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners authorize use (piggyback) of Seminole
County Master Contract A/B-302101/GG and Amendment#1-A/B-3021 with Traffic Control
Devices (TCD)for the installation of new mast-arm traffic signal; and approve $54,000 from the
McKey Street project funds for the new mast-arm signal?
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION:
On April 6, 2004, City Commission authorized reallocation of the McKey Street project funds for
the conversion of the existing span wire traffic signal a decorative mast-arm type. The current
McKey Street project includes the underground signal infrastructure (foundation, conduits, pull &
junction boxes). The additional $54,000 (work order to TCD) will be needed to furnish& install
the new decorative mast arms, re-wire the intersection, and remove of the existing signal in
conjunction with the McKey Street project.
Because the normal time for manufacturing and delivery of the mast-arms are between 4 to 6
months, it is necessary to issue the work order to TCD as soon as possible. No additional funds
are needed for this conversion.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff respectfully requests the Honorable Mayor and City Commission Commissioners authorize
use (piggyback) of Seminole County Master Contract A/B-302101/GG and Amendment#1-NB-
3021 with Traffic Control Devices (TCD)for the conversion of the existing traffic signal to mast-
arms; and approve $54,000 from McKey Street project funds for the new mast-arm signal.
