PARKER * OF GOOD` ('nvMANAGER JIM GLEASON Staff Report Date: April 29, 2002 To: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners — From: Janet G. Shira, Community Relations/Projects irecto Subject: Founders' Day Entertainment and Fireworks Issue Should the Mayor and Commissioners authorize staff to enter into ontra n otiations for entertainment and fireworks for Founders' Day? Background Both the headline entertainment and the fireworks are estimated to be at or over the $15,000 limit that necessitates City Commission authorization for expending funds. Discussion Staff requests authorization to sign a contract for Aaron Tippin at a cost of$30,000. This fee is payable the day of show and will be made with a combination of city funds and sponsorship dollars. Staff also requests authorization to enter into a contract with Zambelli Internationale for the fireworks for Founders' Day. The$15,000 fee for the fireworks will also come from a combination of city funds and sponsorship dollars. Due to time constraints, staff researched available talent and notified Commissioners Johnson and Parker, as well as Michael Miller, of our findings. Of the three top-listed acts that we narrowed it down to, Aaron Tippin was chosen based on cost and the recommendation of the music director for K92-FM. Recommendation Staff respectfully requests approval from the City Commission to allow staff to book the headline talent for this year's Founders' Day in an amount not to exceed S30,000. Staff also respectfully requests approval from the City Commission to contract for the fireworks for the event at a cost not to exceed $15,000. cc: Jim Gleason, City Manager Wanda Horton, Finance Director Michael Miller, Photograph-X POWt
