30 Years James "Buddy" Elmore
In July of 1972, Buddy started working for the City of Ocoee's Water
Department. During this time, the Commission regulated and determined
the rate of pay, with Buddy receiving $66.83 a week. Buddy recalls the City
having only 25 full-time employees. In February of 1977, he was
transferred to Public Works Street Department as Assistant Supervisor. In
January of 1985, Buddy was promoted to Street Supervisor. Finally, in
October of 1997 with departmental changes, he obtained the title of Streets
& Stormwater Supervisor. Through the years, Buddy received several
certifications. Just to name a few: Qualified Stormwater Management
Inspector by the Department of Environmental Protection, Stormwater
Operator's "C", "B" and "A" licenses, Damage Assessment from the
Department of Community Affairs, Signs & Markings —Level III. Buddy
works hand in hand with other organizations including DEP, DOT, Florida
Fish & Game Commission and St. John's Water Management. Buddy was
instrumental in procuring the DOT Maintenance Contract. In 2001 the
stormwater division was awarded its 2nd Annual Safety Award as the safest
stormwater operating division in the state of Florida. As Buddy's long term
goal, he would like to see the City obtain the Public Works State
Accreditation before he retires.
When he is away from the City, Buddy enjoys Florida's history,
archaeology, gardening, fishing and spending time with his grand children.
His most prized archaeology find was a dug-out canoe.
Along with his plaque, Buddy will receive a $500.00 gift certificate to
spend at the West Oaks Mall and a Citizen's Watch from the O.C. Tanner
Recognition Company.
