DATE: July 16, 2002
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Commissioners
FROM: Russ Wagner, AICP, Director of Planning 0$1/
SUBJECT: Saturn of Ocoee
3`d Special Exception Extension
Project# 1-1SE-99
ISSUE:
Should the Mayor and City Commissioners approve a third (12) month extension to the Special
Exception for Saturn of Ocoee as an Automobile Sales and Automobile Repair Use in a C-2
zone?
BACKGROUND:
The subject property is located on the south side of SR 50, just west of Good Homes Road,
across from Good Homes Plaza. The property is currently undeveloped and is occupied by an
old orange grove. The original Special Exception for this use was approved by the City
Commission on July 20, 1999. The site plan for the proposed Saturn of Ocoee dealership has
been approved, but permits for construction have not yet been obtained.
DISCUSSION:
The applicant's agent has requested this additional twelve (12) month extension to allow
completion of restructuring and legal process of their corporate and private dealerships in
Florida (see attached letter from Jack Hawkins, Project Manager). They feel that this extension
will enable the project to move forward in 2002 when this issue is completed.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
Staff respectfully recommends that the Mayor and City Commissioners approve a third
twelve (12) month extension to the Special Exception for Saturn of Ocoe (Case # 1-1SE-
99), to be constructed by July 20, 2003 in accordance with all the Conditi ns of Approval
in the original Special Exception approval dated July 20, 1999.
