15 Years Janet G. Shira
Janet Shira has spent the majority of her working years with the City of
Ocoee. Prior to moving to Florida, she worked in public relations for a major
Boston hospital after graduating from Northeastern University with a
Bachelor's in Journalism and Political Science.
Her employment began on August 11, 1987 as a Secretary I, just the
beginning of other numerous positions. She spent many years in Planning
which she earned her AICP professional certification. In October 1993, she
was reclassified to Capital Projects/Concurrency Analyst. Here she developed
the concurrency management system for the City of Ocoee. October 1997,
Janet was promoted to her current position of Director of Community
Relations and Projects. In this capacity, she administers the neighborhood
matching grants program, grants for the city, is responsible for program
production on the television station, the POWR program, the City newsletter,
Community calendar and several annual special events, including Founder's
Day.
With the City's educational incentive program, Janet earned her
Masters in Public Administration. She was accepted into the University of
Central Florida's Doctoral Program which Janet has completed her first year.
When asked what her greatest contribution to Ocoee has been, she
responeded "Her Dedication." She thanks God for a good sense of humor, a
great husband, and great friends.
Along with-her plaque, Janet will receive a $150.00 gift certificate to
"Shop until she drops" at the West Oaks Mall.
