STAFF REPORT
ISSUE
Should the Honorable Mayor and Board of City Commissioners authorize the police
department to utilize forfeiture funds (not to exceed $11,000) to purchase twelve (12)
"less lethal" munitions launchers, `less lethal" munitions, vehicle racks and necessary
accessories.
The Ocoee Police Department wishes to purchase these items and issue them to specially
trained officers. These items help bridge a gap between hands on control methods and
the use of firearms using live amunition and help reduce the possible likelihood of death
or serious injury to officers, suspects and bystanders in potential deadly three situations.
The department currently has a few of these items in its inventory, however, the purchase
of the additional units would guarantee that these items would he immediately available
to specially trained officers at any given time. Because of their use and nature, these
launchers should be permanently issued to individual officers.
Approximate cost per launcher
Launcher $400
Munitions 250
Vehicle rack 200
Case and accessories 50
The items would be purchased in accordance with City purchasing procedures.
