SUBJECT: Purchase of New Air Conditioning Unit at the Wastewater Treatment Plant
ISSUE:
Should the Mayor and City Commissioners approve the purchase of a new 2-ton air conditioning
unit for the Wastewater Treatment Plant?
BACKGROUND:
The existing 2-ton air conditioning unit, which is part of a "split system", malfunctioned and
needed to be repaired. Upon examination, it was discovered that the unit could not be restored
to working condition and needed to be replaced.
DISCUSSION:
This new unit is required to supplement the heating and air conditioning system in the
Wastewater Treatment building in a dual or"split" air conditioning system. Without this unit, the
primary unit in the HVAC system will be over burdened eventually causing the unit to
malfunction. In accordance with City's purchasing policy three (3) quotes were obtained for this
air conditioning unit.
STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that this unit be purchased from Apple Air Conditioning at a cost of $2,981.00,
wherein they will remove and dispose of the secondary existing unit and install a new 2-ton air
conditioning unit with a 10kw heat strip. The funding for this new unit and the associated work will
come from the "Wastewater Operating" account which will be transferred to the Wastewater CIP
account.
