RE: Drainage Improvements for Log Run Court, Forest Oaks Subdivision
ISSUE
Should City Commission authorize design and construction of a drainage improvement project
for Log Run Court in Forest Oaks Subdivision?
BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION
The design of the roadway and the cul-de-sac on Log Run Court forces the runoff to overrun the
existing drainage system and enter the driveway and primarily the garage at the residential
dwelling at 303 Log Run Court. Although the grading of the private property contributes a
1 smaller portion of the runoff,the major portion of flooding is attributed to the Log Run Court
drainage.
The City has cleaned all stormwater drains in the vicinity of the problem area and has placed
sandbags in critical locations to lessen the impact of the flooding. However, a permanent solution
is needed to prevent the roadway runoff from entering the property.
Preliminary review of the site indicates the need for construction of special catch basins and
drains at various critical locations;and to reconstruct a portion of the curb, sidewalks, and the
driveway. The costs of the survey and design of project is estimated at$15,000 and the
construction costs are estimated at$35,000 for a total project cost of$50,000. Funds for the
project are available from the Stormwater Improvement Funds(funds 312) and the project design
can begin immediately upon approval.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff respectfully requests authorization to proceed with the design and construction of the
drainage improvement project at Log Run Court at a cost of$50,000.
